The RWPPI held its third meeting on October 31. The number of participating companies has increased from 33 to 35 since the 2nd meeting he ld on August 29, 2000. Two new members are Mitsui Chemicals, Inc. and Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd.
Four of the major topics discussed or reported during the meeting were: (1) inauguration of the hardware working group following that of the media working group; (2) participation in the CEATEC Japan 2000 Exhibition during October 3 to 7; (3) Japan's system of compensation for recording copyrighted materials for private use; and (4) proposal for establishing a RWPPI liaison office in the U.S.A.
The session was concluded by a passionate guest speech on the future of DVD media by Fumihiro Funaki, president of Sound Stage Co., Ltd.
