Reports on the exhibition at IFA and the launch on the European market.
RWPPI's 8th regular meeting took place on September 18. At the start of the meeting, the organization's representative Sugimoto stressed the shift in recording media from tape to disk and the expected fast growth of the DVD recorder market. His encouraging speech was followed by a briefing by the media and hardware subcommittees on two subjects: time display of DVD-R/RW discs and playback compatible players.
Members of Pioneer's Intellectual Property Division introduced the latest trends in watermarking believed to be effective as a copyright protection technology in the age of digital contents. Then reports were presented by the secretariat on the RWPPI's first overseas exhibition at IFA 2001 (Berlin Show) and the press conference held to announce the establishment of the RWPPI European liaison office.
A special lecture on "Recordable DVD at Hitachi" was given by Dr. Akira Shibata, Corporate Chief Engineer, Digital Media, Hitachi, Ltd., who is a member of the Recordable DVD Council. Mr.Yokokawa , General Manager, Development Division, Corporate Research & Development, Pioneer concluded the meeting with a lecture entitled "Trends in blue laser technology seen in academic society papers."
