RWPPI's 9th regular meeting was held on October 31, 2001 in Tokyo. The organization's key representative, Dr. Sugimoto opened the meeting with a short and warm thank you speech to all the participating members who exhibited materials at CEATEC・JAPAN last October. He stressed that the event would not have achieved such success without the exhibiting members incessant support in this greatly increasing market for DVD-R/RW related products. Afterwards, the media and hardware working group committees presented their reports; regarding agreement to standardize the caution language on media packages, and to confirm current status of R/RW compatibility issues while determining methods to tackle future matters.
This was followed by a double lecture: "Future Trends in Optical Media, " by Vega Research, Inc. (the representative for U&S) including the analysis report of the questionnaires from CEATEC・Japan. The other was by special guest Mr. Shinji Yamada, NHK Commentator on the topic, "Future of Japanese Economy" to close the meeting.
