European Levy System Progress and WCES Plans.
Unitech Japan Inc. joins as a new member to equal 47.
The 10th RWPPI regular meeting was held on Dec. 18, 2001 in Tokyo.
Dr. Sugimoto greeted the members with an opening speech. On account
of the members' incessant support and cooperation, he thanked them
for helping us mark our 10th regular meeting. He emphasized the fact
that RWPPI's role will become increasingly important, and how necessary
it was for the members' cooperation to feed accurate information
to the market while mutually expanding in the industry. Furthermore,
he ended his speech by making the final note about the mis-leading
information against -R/RW format from a fellow industry company on
a certain website, in which he intends to rectify the facts fairly
and accurately. After, the media and hardware working committees
presented their regular reports, followed by the announcement of
Pioneer Corporation's establishment of RW Coordination Center to
focus on business support more actively and aggressively to -R/RW
compatibility.
With regard to the copyright related matters, the report on the
progress of the European Levy System was made, followed by the report
plans for the second overseas show participation for WCES (Winter
Consumer Electronics Show) 2002 in Las Vegas, U.S.A. by the RWPPI
staff
The meeting was closed with the special guest speaker, Mr. Toshifumi
Murakami, the Yamagiwa Store Manager of Tokyo Branch. Yamagiwa Store
is one of the leading electrical products wholesale distributor
in Japan. His talk was on "Views of Memory Storage Devices
from the Sales Side," which was very well received to hear
actual views and needs from the people working closest to our customers.
