Aiming to improve DVD-R/RW disc recording and playback compatibility through the Round Robin Test Plans.
Prodisc Technology Inc. signs on as new member to equal 48 companies in total.
The 11th RWPPI Regular Meeting was held on February 19th. The meeting started off with the opening speech by Mr. Magohiro Aramoto, the Senior Executive Vice President of Sharp Corporation with the following remark: "With Sharp's entry of the DVD recorder in the market, we will strive to expand the industry as well as RWPPI's activities."
Afterwards, the report of the Round Robin Test Plans by the regular Hardware and Media Working Groups were made. In this growing market for the DVD recordable / playback products, RWPPI members are working to increase the compatibility amongst these DVD-R/RW related products by conducting a Round Robin type of test for hardware and media products in development. The final goal and purpose for these Round Robin Tests is to raise the end user's CS (Customer Satisfaction).
Further, Pioneer Corporation made the report regarding the Check Disc Production and its Sale. This was followed by the report of the WCES 2002 (Winter Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas early this year) by the RWPPI staff, including the renewal progress of the RWPPI home page.
At the end of the agenda, the special guest lecture by Professor Hideo Yamada of Waseda University on the topic "Changing Defacto Standards" was made at the closing of the meeting. Interesting and practical examples were presented making the lecture exciting and very informative for the attending members.
