The 12th RWPPI Regular Meeting was held on April 17, 2002. The opening speech was made by the chairman Dr. Masao Sugimoto, with a short talk on the positioning of re-writable media for the PC industry, and the current marketing penetration status of DVD-R/RW drives and its future trends. Afterwards, the regular report from the hardware and media working groups were made with regard to the on-going inspection procedures for compatibility between DVD drives/players and DVD-R/RW discs, along with consensus on unity for package description/expression.
Following the above, the Round Robin Tests progress report was made by the chairman, along with the presentation of the overall operation schedule. This was then followed by this year's 3rd Annual Activities Plan presentation by the RWPPI staff office.
The end of the meeting was closed with the special lecture from the prominent guest, Mr. Mamoru Harada (Co-editor of Nikkei Electronics), with the topic: "Survival for Recordable Media in the Broadband Era."
