At the beginning, there was an opening speech from Mr. Koki Aizawa - Representative. "We wish to express our gratitude for really being able to expand the RW format through the great cooperation of each member company to where we are now. Alongside the media compatibility verification in progress, active discussions on the 'Copy Once' problem is rising, and RWPPI intends to engage in these important issues." ending the powerful message.
As 3 new members to join: NewTech Infosystems, Inc.; Tohoku Pioneer Corporation; Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology Corporation joined to total 61 member companies in all. Self introduction presentations were made by each new member regarding their company background and business, with the aim to enhance activities in abundance regarding DVD-R/DVD-RW and its related products. The detailed RWPPI member satisfaction rating investigation report and the announcement of the exhibition plan for CeBIT Asia to be held in Shanghai, China in April were done by the secretariat.
In continuation, Mr. Nakashima, Mr. Takigawa, and Mr. Aridome of Sony Corporation made the introduction of their new DVD Handycam "DCR-DVD201/101" that Sony put on the market in March, as a new trend of the product related to DVD-RW. It has already been put on the market in North America, and the demonstration made good impressions enough to create a big topic on functionality of DVD-RW compatibility and operability, etc.
For the regular special lecture, digital media critic Mr. Reiji Asakura entitled, "Evolution of Digital Home Electronics Appliances" talked on reflecting past AV equipment and how they made a hit. Distinct points as "Conditions on Digital AV Products," "Unification of IT and AV is impossible," "Digital Products Ahead by 0.7 Generations make Great Hits," sparked deep interest. Final encouraging strong words of request were made to the attending member companies: "Try and capture the domestic peoples' needs in Japan, and to concentrate on quality while actively enriching the Digital AV culture in Japan." ending the meeting safely.
