The 33rd RWPPI General Meeting was held on October 28th, at the head office of Pioneer Corporation in Meguro ward.
This time, "BenQ Corporation" (a major Taiwanese manufacturer) was welcomed as a newly joined member to total 69 RWPPI member companies.
The meeting started with the speech by Mr. Koki Aizawa, the Representative of RWPPI.
"Wefve been hearing a lot about the next generation discs from the past and now, but the truth of the matter is that business centered on
DVD-RW & R related products continue to make excellent releases, and will surely be the prime selling products for this Christmas season and thereafter.
As a result, our RWPPI sponsored Round Robin Test activities will play an even more vital role."
The speech was delivered to the member companies with strong expectations wishing great success.

In continuation, the report of CeBIT Bilisim Eurasia 2005 (Turkey) held in September was made by the RWPPI Secretariat,
followed with the announcement of exhibit plans for CeBIT Hanover, March 2006 in Germany.
RWPPI is now actively promoting in the developing markets/territories for DVD-RW & DVD-R, and reported to the
exhibited member companies how effectively and appealingly the in-depth communication were made to visitors at CeBIT Bilisim Eurasia 2005.

Next, Mr. Muramatsu of Pioneer Corporation presented the current DVD-RW DL and DVD-R DL 8x disc specifications that
is being discussed and established at the DVD Forum. The technological aspects are under study now, where both 12cm and 8cm
specifications are considered, showing great expectations for expansion and benefits of the DVD camcorder market. In order to
sustain playback compatibility with existing devices, the basic concept of minimizing technical changes, and to announce the publication
of the Version 2.0 format book in early 2006, so that manufacturers may prepare product entry into the market was explained. As for the
8x speed recording compatible DVD-R DL disc, the necessity for implementing higher speed recording compatibility in the specifications
were also explained.

The introduction of new products by 5 member companies followed. First, Mr. Matsunobu of Ulead Systems, Inc.
and Mr. Ueda of Victor Company of Japan explained and actually demonstrated how simple editing of video or still
pictures from digital cameras and digital video cameras can be achieved, and stored on DVD-RW discs using the PC
application "Digital Story." Mr. Matsunobu also demonstrated the new product "Media One Gallery," the digital
media integration tool from InterVideo, Inc.

Next, Mr. Toyama of CyberLink, Inc. introduced the application software "Power Producer 6," with features for adding, editing, and deleting of the play list on your PC can be made from a DVD recorder VR mode recorded CPRM supported disc.
For the hardware presentation, Mr. Hamada of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation demonstrated the features of their new "Raku Reco" DVD recorder series with their new model "DVR-HE50W." As a much brought up CM topic in Japan nowadays,
it features a "Highlights Playback System" that enables users to automatically playback highlight scenes of sports events, as well as easy editing features with "auto cut i" functions that are equipped. This was followed with
Victor Company of Japan's "Kairoku Lupin" series DVD Recorder equipped with new technology introduced by Mr. Namiki. Their originally developed "Super MPEG-2 pre & post processor" enables high quality picture recording & playback, and
equipped with their "intelligent 2 pass encode" technology, high picture quality dubbing from HDD to DVD is possible. Mr. Namiki explained that JVC will continue to appeal technology in their DVD recorders with the "3-in-1 function,
video quality, and easy use" points in developing their DVD recorders.

As the last item on the Agenda, the special lecture by Mr. Kazuo Kaneko, the president of JEITA (Japan Electronics & Information Technology Industries Association) on the topic
"Latest Trends in the Electronics Industry" was made.
First in discussing the current and future trends of the Japanese electronics industry, he pointed out that the visual equipment in the Japanese domestic market in terms of
shipment amount and quantity bases, both have been very good continually since the year 2004. These results were especially on the account of the favorable sales pull from TVs,
Recorders, and Car AV. Looking down on the industry from a general point of view, "rapid increases in the future with high potential may be expected in the Information
appliances, car electronics, and robotics type of promising markets" were confidently mentioned. 4 important items JEITA is concerned with that greatly influences the development
of the industries for the future were explained: "tackling environmental issues," "promotions for digital terrestrial broadcasting," and "coping with international trends"
in which the industries must unite to undertake these matters. Many of the RWPPI members were attracted by the leadership role efforts JEITA is undertaking to address these
issues, especially regarding international trends on protection of intellectual property, environmental problems, commercial problems, and standardization problems.
JEITA intends to actively hold meetings and discussions trilaterally with the Electronics Information Industries Associations in Japan, the U.S.A., and Europe.
