The 35th RWPPI General Meeting was held on Feb. 17, 2006 at the head office of Pioneer Corporation in Meguro (Tokyo).

The meeting started off with the speech by the RWPPI Representative, Mr. Aizawa.
He brought the attention of the remarkably recent worldwide increases in the DVD
Video Camera market, and how the customerfs interest in playback of images taken
from it has grown as well.
With the appealing superiority of DVD-RW and DVD-R characteristics for compatibility
that RWPPI has been promoting, he emphasized for even greater efforts to elevate customer's
understanding of their true benefits.
This was followed by the Round Robin Test "Stage 5" Results Report by Mr. Utsumi, the chairman.
The "Stage 5" tests involved various evaluation tests for 16x DVD-R, 6x DVD-RW, 4x DVD-R, DVD-R Dual
Layer, and DVD-R/RW discs for DVD Video Camera.
Compared to previous Stage tests, it was conducted in a broader context with more variations of
optical storage discs to be apprehended, but a remarkably high compatibility rate of 98.4% was achieved.
Approaches for the next "Stage 6" test plans announced centered on 8x DVD-R Dual Layer (DL), 2x DVD-RW DL,
continued CPRM disc tests, 8cm disc compatibility with new applications, and compatibility between legacy
and new DVD recorders/writers.

Next, the introduction of new products by 3 application software manufacturers was made.
First, Mr. Matsunobu of InterVideo Japan, Inc. introduced their product "iVideoToGo for iPod/for PSP."
The product feature enables you to playback on MPEG-4, and to write video files with video format
H.264 for iPod5G, as well as for PSP.

From Sonic Solutions Japan K.K., Mr. Yamada introduced their new CD/DVD writing software "Easy Media Creator 8."
With the concepts "Easier," "Better," and "More Possible" product to satisfy user interface and components, a live
demonstration of how easy editing of shots taken from a DVD camera can be achieved was introduced.
As the 3rd company to make the introduction, Mr. Hattori of Nero K.K. took the platform to introduce their new product
"Nero 7 Premium." This multifunctional product enables video/music file editing, photo data readings edit, and more.
Furthermore, with the "Nero Digital codec," HD resolution contents may also be stored on currently recordable DVD discs,
where over 5 million approved devices using this format in Europe are expected for shipment.
Likewise, compatible devices for shipment to the U.S. and Japan in the 1st half of this year are expected.

As the Special Lecture for the day, Mr. Yamaguchi and Mr. Nagao of the Windows Client Partner Team,
Business Development of Microsoft Co., Ltd. took to the platform to talk about
"Microsoft's Visions in Digital Living." It focused on their proposal of introducing a new service
model for handling contents and devices in the digital entertainment business.
Mr. Yamaguchi explained about their active construction of a unique digital living service model of connecting
the PC and electrical devices, where realization for end-users to playback various scenes from various
contents and various devices can be achieved.
Ideas of business opportunities through developments compatible with this service were introduced.
To realize this, goals need to be set for easy use of business resources and license costs.
Mr. Yamaguchi pointed out that realizing the possibilities for expanding feature differentiation of
electrical devices • unique user interfaces, and to be equipped with high quality audio/video
specifications are major problems yet to clear.
Mr. Nagao then demonstrated playback of music/video contents taken from a PC and transferred onto an AV
amplifier and TV. Another demonstration of contents stored in the portable music player were played back
through streamlining on a stand alone AV amplifier, explaining the outline of such service models.
Aiming for "Free and Easy Use of Digital Media," the conceptual use between PC and electrical devices
bilaterally were presented. With the end of Microsoft's special lecture, the meeting ended with a grand
applause from the attending members.
