Following the opening speech, Ms. Naomi Aoki of the Standards & Copyright Management Center, Research & Development Group of Pioneer Corporation presented the Copyright Update Information. Currently a copyright-related subcommittee under the Council for Cultural Affairs (an advisory body within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology), one of whose member is JEITA , is discussing restructuring of the scheme of Remuneration for Audio/Video Home Recording on which her report was made. The Remuneration for Audio/Video Home Recording was introduced in 1992, but with the flow of changing times, it faces expanding structural problems with its current construction., The above Council has targeted to complete its report to the Ministry by the end of 2007. Follow-up on the intermediate progression and future trends related to this matter will be introduced when new information becomes available.

Next, the new standard centered on DVD-RW / DVD-R Dual Layer (DL) was introduced by Mr. Taniguchi of the Home System Development Center, Pioneer Corporation (DVD Forum WG6 Chair).
Of the new standards this time by the DVD Forum WG6, the DVD-RW DL 2x-speed was approved in September, and the DVD-R DL 10x 12x is expected to be approved by November this year. With larger storage capacity of the DL, better high quality images and longer recording time can be achieved, where applications for future recorders, camcorders, and writers may be expected.
