Representative Koki Aizawa opened the meeting with a speech highlighting the importance of the round-robin tests. Following this, the RWPPI Secretariat reported that, after meeting with disc manufacturers regarding the text to be displayed on disc packaging pertaining to recording HD content onto DVD-R and DVD-RW discs, the results of those meetings were submitted to the Japan Recording-media Industry Association Optical Disc Committee on September 3. The committee stated that the matter would be reconsidered at a committee meeting on October 1.

Mr. Hidehiro Ishii of Pioneer Corp., Chairman of the Round Robin Test Stage7, gave a progress report on Stage 7, which is currently underway. Tests began in earnest on September 14 and results are expected within the year. A report is scheduled to be compiled in January or February 2008.

Next, Shoji Taniguchi of Pioneer Corp. and chairman of the DVD Forum's Working Group 6, gave an update on DVD Forum standards pertaining to CSS downloads. The forum has largely completed its study of standardization and licensing and business operations can start provided that approval for subsequent CSS licenses is forthcoming.

Finally, Yoshinari Yamada of Sonic Solutions gave a special presentation on business strategies for DVD downloads using Sonic Solution CSS. Sonic Solutions has long invested considerable effort into its video-on-demand business and Mr. Yamada spoke of the company’s intention to make aggressive use of Qflix software for its MOD-EST business, an area tagged for significant future market growth.
