Digest of the Seminar

Through joint sponsorship with the Taiwan Recording Industries Association (TRIA), RWPPI successfully held the third Round-Robin Test (RRT) Seminar on February 23, 2006, at the Grand Formosa Regent Hotel in Taipei, Taiwan.
Some 60 people participated in the event. The seminar included presentations on the results of "Stage 5" recording and playback compatibility tests with 16x DVD-R and 6x DVD-RW products (media, writers, recorders, and PC software), which were completed this past January, to businesspeople mostly from Taiwan.
At the same time, the seminar sought to recruit new participation in RWPPI and RRT. It should be noted that Stage 5 was implemented within the Joint Round-Robin Test (JRT) conducted with RDVDC.

Following an opening address by RWPPI Representative Director Aizawa, guest speeches were presented by Mr. Gordon Yeh, Chairman of TRIA and CEO of RITEK Corporation, and Mr. Stephen Jeng, Vice Director-General of the Taiwan Information Storage Association (TISA).

A presentation on RWPPI activities was then made by Secretary General Masaya Ogawa, which was followed by a report on TRIA activities by TRIA Optical Disc Committee President Eric, an outline and summary of the round-robin test, and test reports from each working group.
Reports on the recently implemented test included a report from Victor Company of Japan's Mr. Fujiki, who is Chair of the Physical Working Group; a report from Pioneer's Mr. Maruyama, who is Co-Chair of the Writer Working Group; a report on the Recorder Working Group from Pioneer's Mr. Ishii; and finally a report from Kenwood's Mr. Shinoki, who is Co-Chair of the Playback Compatible Working Group.
Many people participating in the seminar lingered after its conclusion to chat with the chairs and co-chairs of the working groups.

Furthermore, a technical meeting with RRT member engineers from Taiwan and other countries was held on the following day (Thursday, February 24) in a meeting room of CyberLink. With 30 people in attendance, the meeting included a lively question-and-answer session. The technical meeting also featured presentations from RRT working group chairs and co-chairs that presented problem areas in product design and the market with regard to compatibility between hardware and media. The participating engineers gave the meeting high marks, saying that they were able to obtain extremely useful information.
RWPPI is grateful for the valuable cooperation extended to it in the holding of this meeting by TRIA, RITEK Corporation, and CyberLink.

RWPPI will continue working to maintain and improve DVD-RW and DVD-R recording and playback compatibility through round-robin tests.
