Through joint sponsorship with the Taiwan Recording Industries Association (TRIA), RWPPI successfully held its fourth Round-Robin Test (RRT) Seminar on March 8, 2007, at the Grand Formosa Regent Taipei Hotel in Taiwan. Some 50 people participated in the event. The seminar included presentation results of the gStage 6h recording and playback compatibility tests for DVD-R 16x, 8cm DVD-RW 2x, DVD-R DL 4x and 8x related products (optical storage discs, writers, recorders, and PC software), completed this January. At the same time, the seminar sought to recruit new participation of Taiwanese companies to the RWPPI and RRT. The Stage 6 Test was conducted jointly with the RDVDC as the worldfs largest Joint Round-Robin Test (JRT).
Following the opening address by RWPPI Representative Mr. Koki Aizawa, the guest speech by Dr. Der-Ray Huang, Chairman of ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) was made.

The RWPPI activities presentation was then made by its Secretary General, Mr. Masami Morishita, followed by the report of TRIA (Taiwan Recording-Media Industries Association) activities by its Secretary General, Mr. John Wu. In continuation, the outline and summary of the Round-Robin Test, and test reports from each of its Working Groups followed.
Reports on the recently implemented test included the report from Victor Company of Japanfs Mr. Kuniharu Fujiki, who is Chair of the Physical Working Group; a report from Pioneerfs Mr. Toshihiko Maruyama, who is Co-Chair of the Writer Working Group; a report on the Recorder Working Group from Pioneerfs Mr. Yasunari Kawahara; and finally a report from Kenwoodfs Mr. Yuta Shinoki, who is Co-Chair of the Playback Compatible Working Group.

At the end of the seminar, the special lecture by Mr. Tomohiko Komatsu, CEO of BOC (Holdings) Ltd. presented insight on gFuture Trends of Red Laser Optical Disc.h Starting with recording media market trends, Blu-ray / HD DVD topics from CES 2007 were presented, along with the newest trends as gDown Load and writing on DVD with CSSh and gHi-Def writing on Recordable DVD Disch and much more were explained and introduced. Attendees showed strong interest in these topics, where many people participating in the seminar stayed after its conclusion to chat with Mr. Komatsu, the chairs, and co-chairs of the working groups.

Furthermore, a Technical Meeting with RRT members and engineers from Taiwan and other countries was held on the following day (Friday, March 9th) in the meeting room at the ITRI campus in Hsinchu. Roughly 30 people attended the meeting, where active question-and-answer discussions were made. It started with the opening speech by the RWPPI Secretary General, Mr. Morishita, followed by presentations of gDVD-RW DL Developmenth by Mr. Fujiki of JVC, gCSS on DVD-Rh by Mr. Maruyama of Pioneer, gActual Circumstances and Problems in High-Speed Optical Storage Discsh by Mr. Chu of RITEK, future of gDigital Broadcast and DVD Recordersh by Mr. Motoyoshi of Sony, and the Questionnaire results of Drive and Optical Storage Discs by Mr. Ohwada of Sony were made. The technical meeting also featured presentations from RRT working group chairs and co-chairs that presented problem areas in product design and the market with regard to compatibility between hardware and media, with free open discussion at the end. The participating engineers gave the meeting high marks, saying that they were able to obtain extremely useful information.
