Digest of the Seminar

The RWPPI held its second Round Robin Test Seminar at COMPUTEX TAIPEI on June 2, at the TWTC (Taiwan World Trade Center), Hall-1, Room 5.
At this seminar, the report of the second compatibility test results conducted jointly with the RDVDC (Recordable DVD Council) using 8x DVD-R, and 4x DVD-RW related products (such as optical storage media, DVD writers, DVD recorders, and PC software) for recording and playback compatibility were reported. Through the introduction of these compatibility test activities at this seminar to the related industry manufacturers in Taiwan, the RWPPI aimed to achieve more new members to join these tests.
Attendance exceeding 100 journalists and engineers in the related industry proved to have great interest, surprisingly surpassing copies prepared as handout materials by the RWPPI secretariat.

The seminar started with Ms. Tina Tsai of RITEK Corporation as the master of ceremony. Then, the speech by Mr. Koki Aizawa - Representative of RWPPI was made, continued by Dr. Der Ray Huang of ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute), and Mr. Gordon Yeh - Chairman of TRIA (The Taiwan Recording-Media Industries Association) as the guest speakers.

Overall RWPPI activities were introduced (by Mr. Masaya Ogawa - Secretary General), followed by the introductory outline of the Round Robin Tests with summaries by Mr. Yoshihiro Utsumi of Pioneer Corporation, and also the chairman for these test meetings. Further detailed reports were made by the RWPPI Physical WG Chairman - Mr. Kuniharu Fujiki of Victor Company of Japan, Limited; Writer WG Chairman - Mr. Akira Shinohara of TEAC Corporation; Recorder WG Chairman - Mr. Hidehiro Ishii of Pioneer Corporation, and Playback WG Chairman - Mr. Nobuyasu Kikuchi of Sony Corporation. Many attendees still remained after the seminar to continue discussions with the WG chairmen and co-chairmen.

Furthermore, on June 1st (a day before the seminar), the Physical WG was able to ascertain in -depth discussions with the engineers of the optical storage manufacturers of Taiwan held at CyberLink Corporation's meeting room. RWPPI will continue to conduct DVD-RW and DVD-R recording and playback compatibility activities through the Round Robin Tests into the future, always aiming for better improvements.
