RWPPI stands for RW Products Promotion Initiative, and RW ("ReWritable")
refers to the property that allows writing data over and over. Simply stated, it allows you to re-record on the same media many times.
Twelve of the top DVD manufacturers gathered in May 2000 to launch the non-profit organization RWPPI, an initiative to develop, popularize, and promote reliable DVD recording products to customers.
Since the establishment of RWPPI, numerous regular meetings were held in Tokyo. The RWPPI members collect and exchange a wide range of information relating to the DVD-R/RW technology and user trends. We also hold periodic meetings regarding copyright protection developments as well as media/hardware
working group sessions and social gatherings to discuss various issues.
We are now pushing forward to focus on the DVD-R and DVD-RW formats that have been approved by the DVD Forum to enable recording and rewriting of images on DVD (more commonly known as Digital Versatile Disc). Why are we concentrating on these formats ? The DVD-R format is now widely known, and the DVD-RW is like a sibling, a mere extension of it in its simplest form where you may make re-recordings on the same media.
RWPPI is an industry alliance that aims to deliver next generation home entertainment through DVD-R/RW.
